Lá an Fhorógra 2016
March 15th 2016 was designated 'Proclamation Day' for schools in Ireland. This was a very special day during which schools all over the country commemorated and reflected upon the events of 100 years ago. To coincide with Proclamation Day, Urbleshanny NS hosted our annual Lenten fundraising event.
We encouraged all pupils to dress in 'period' clothing. This year our fundraiser was called 'Ireland 1916-2016'. The day began with the flag-raising ceremony, the reading of the 1916 Proclamation and the reading of our own school's 'Proclamation For A New Generation'. We were very excited about reading the 'Urbleshanny 2016 Proclamation'. Parents and other members of the local community were invited to attend this part of the day's celebrations.
The Parents Association of Urbleshanny NS very thoughtfully provided a treat for each child to mark the occasion and a beautiful cake was presented to the staff also on the day. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.
Various activities took place during the day in which the pupils played games of yesteryear and enjoyed a concert of dancing, singing, instrumental music and poetry in the school hall later that afternoon. Truly a memorable event to mark Proclamation Day 2016.
There were many photographs taken on the day so click here for images.
