History Competition in Monaghan County Museum
Monaghan County Museum invited primary school pupils to enter a competition earlier this year. The museum remembered the events of 1916 with a very successful exhibition "From A Whisper To A Roar" exploring the untold story of Monaghan and the lives of Monaghan people caught up in the 1916 Rising and the Battle of The Somme. Pupils were asked to submit a story, poem or picture telling of a person who was involved in the Rising or an incident from 1916. Two pupils from 6th Class were awarded prizes on Friday afternoon, the 28th of April. Briana came 1st and Jessica came 3rd in the 5th/6th Class Category. Liam Bradley, Curator, Monaghan County Museum, presented the girls with their awards.
The museum's current exhibition "The Watchmen - Policing, Crime and Punishment in Monaghan" is on display until December 2017. A very interesting exhibition telling the history of maintaining law and order in the county. Briana and Jessica even had their mugshot taken!
All those who participated in the 1916/WW1 History Competition received a certificate to the school and were presented with them on the 1st June 2017.
