Visit to 5th Class Pupils from TGWS

5th class had an informative visit on the 27th of February from Seán Clerkin, Manager of Tydavnet Group Water Scheme and Claire Sherlock, Secretary, TGWS as part of the school's ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Project. Tydavnet Group Water Scheme is a private group water scheme established in the 1980's. It's a scheme where the entire water supply, including the source, treatment plant and distribution network is owned by a group of community trustees. Tydavnet's manager, Seán Clerkin who is also the National Policy Advisor to the National Federation of Group Water Schemes, explained to the pupils how a group water scheme works. With the aid of a slideshow on the interactive whiteboard, Seán informed the pupils about the operations of the treatment plant on Eshnaglogh and how the water from nearby Lake Antrawer/Tra Lough is filtered and treated for human consumption. Seán emphasised the importance of maintaining the water and surrounding upland bog in pristine condition and the significance of avoiding pollution by rubbish and other susbstances.
