Tús maith, leath na hoibre

As Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, outlined in their Guidelines for Schools 2015, the best gift that anybody can give a child is to offer a child the opportunity to fulfil his or her potential. Every day should be a day of wonder and of learning for a child. Education, too, plays an important part in ensuring that children grow to independence and that they are in a position to benefit from life’s opportunities. Children who attend school regularly are more likely to stay in school and therefore to be emotionally, financially and socially secure in later life.

Celebrating and rewarding good attendance is an approach that is used internationally and is generally seen by schools as a useful way of promoting attendance. Many pupils were awarded for their unbroken attendance in the school year 2018 - 2019.

So who will be the proud receivers of the Tusla certificate in this school year, 2019-2020? As the old Irish proverb says, A good start is half the work.

Tús maith, leath na hoibre!
