Teacher Artist Partnership (TAP) Residency Programme
Urbleshanny NS were delighted when Monaghan Education Centre informed us in September that the school had been selected for the Teacher Artist Partnership Programme (TAP) 2019 - 2020. This is a wonderful opportunity for the school to engage in a partnership approach with particular reference to Arts Education. The emphasis is on Partnership and the impact that this approach has on learning outcomes for the teacher, the artist, the pupils and the school community at large.
The school has been partnered with the artist/sculptor Marc Kelly. Both Marc and a member of the teaching staff from Urbleshanny NS were trained in preparation, planning, reporting and eveluating practices during the TAP summer course in July 2019. Only teachers, who participated in the summer course training programme, can partner the artist in residency.
Imagine the excitement when the application was successful and Ms McManus and her 3rd class were the lucky recipients of this opportunity to have an artist in residence for this school year. Marc Kelly, who hails from Emyvale, is an artist who specialises in sculptural work, working with a variety of mediums including stone, wood and bog wood.
The chosen theme of the project is the fox and Marc began the project today with the pupils designing and naming a fox on A4 paper using pencils, markers and coloured pens. The end result will be to merge all the designs together to create a sculptural wall mural on the school site. The pupils then made a small 3D model of the fox.
