How 3rd Class Survived Storm Emma

3rd Class, like every other 3rd class in every other primary school in Ireland, found themselves off school for two days last Thursday and Friday. However they put their time to good use and completed their history project on The Vikings. They researched information about these famous Scandinavian people who once arrived on our shores in their longships and raided and pillaged the towns and villages of Ireland. The Norse men contibuted to our Gaelic and Anglo-Saxon vocabulary with words like Wednesday, named after a Viking God, Wodin and Thursday, named after Thor, another Viking God. Without the Vikings visiting our shores and settling here we would be missing some words like berserk, cake, ugly, ransack and skull in our everyday language. 3rd class enjoyed learning about The Vikings by making items and booklets on the subject.

Have a look at the images below of their wonderful work.
