Enhancing Athletic Movement Programme

6th class pupils recently participated, over an eight week period, in a programme delivered by Monaghan GAA's Strength & Conditioning Coach. Martin has devised a programme for enhancing athletic movement in boys and girls aged between 11-12 years of age. The last eight weeks saw Martin conduct the programme with pupils from 6th class in Scotstown GFC sports complex. Martin examined the general fitness levels, movement patterns and running mechanics with the pupils.

The purpose of the programme was:

  • Expose young players for fitness testing and equipment
  • Encourage students to lead a more active lifestyle
  • To help improve a student's athletic movement at a younger age
  • Teach the students various exercises to help improve or enhance athletic movement
  • Educate students on the importance of posture, mobility exercise, flexibility, jumping and landing, strength and aerobic fitness.

Martin returned with the results of the fitness assessment on a snowy Friday the 8th of December accompanied by Games Development Officers, Colin Malone and Rory Beggan. Martin stated that there were brilliant improvements all round over the eight weeks.
