Eco UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards

A group of pupils from 5th and 6th class have formed a committee called The Sliabh Beagh Protectors and have entered their project in the Eco UNESCO Young Environmentalists Awards. The committee aims to create more awareness about the Sliabh Beagh area and to reduce the amount of illegal dumping there. The pupils are supported by Alice Daly and Madge Murphy from Ballinode Tidy Towns and Jimmy Connolly from Scotstown Tidy Towns, Bernie McElwain and Mary McGloin, parents and Gerard Meehan, school caretaker. Cllr Cathy Bennett attended the launch of the leaflet designed to inform people about Sliabh Beagh and the importance of this wonderful natural landscape right on our doorstep. The leaflet was funded by MOnaghan County Council Environmental Services and printed and distributed by the Northern Standard  on Thursday, 15th of March.
